When version 1 of the process kit was being put together, I can still remember (vividly!) Martin Thompson asking me “Rors, can you just create a quick diagram to show how all the processes work together?” This request formed the hate-part of my love/ hate relationship with Visio! Typically, it is the last thing I want to do, not least because processes and process maps seem to go through endless tweaks and improvements right up to the date of publication, resulting in the reverse engineering of eco-systems.
Dwelling a pause of two long years(!) has afforded Kylie and I the opportunity to revise some of the hand ins and hand outs so that presenting an A0 sheet of paper with all the connections modelled is something that is worthwhile and also achievable.
First thing you might notice from the previous version (of the eco-system) is that we have more processes! Consequently, we have more connections. 105 to be specific. Whereas numbering was provided in Version 3 of the kit via the mapping master file on the individual processes, I have now added those numbers to the eco-system.
While some things change, others remain the same – and I was keen to retain the Bermuda Triangle of SAM in the image: it doesn’t matter what tool you have, or what Service Management framework you adopt, if request, procurement and deployment are not trading data at an operational level then you will not get beyond level 1 of SAM.
FAQs:
Q: “Rors: are you planning to craft a HAM & SAM eco system?”
A: “No – you couldn’t pay me enough. Although individual mapping exercises for the processes reference HAM and Service Management processes.”
Q: “And what about integrating it with cloud processes?”
A: “We have a separate cloud eco-system already drafted, we’re just in the longer exercise of crafting the words around the process maps.”
You’ll be delighted to hear that the ITAM Accelerate ISO 19770-1: 2017 eco-system is available for free to download in a PDF format from this websit and also ships as a complimentary artifact with purchases of the process kit.
